  Books for Information and Enjoyable Reading 
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         1.  "WINTERDANCE - The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod"  by Gary Paulson  (ISBN:  0-15-600145-4)  - story of the author's training for and running the Iditarod. Have a box of tissues handy, you will cry from laughing and sorrow.  Disney's movie SNOW DOGS  was originally titled Winderdance.  The movie gently follows parts of this book.  This is an easy and entertaining read.


2.  "THE SIBERIAN HUSKY - Able Athlete, Able Friend" by Michael Jennings  (ISBN:  1-58245-046-3) - general information book on the history of the breed, care of the dogs, etc.  You will find a sub-chapter about our "KeeKaWa Siberians and kennel" in this book.    

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         3.   'THE SIBERIAN HUSKY'  by Joan McDonald Brearley  (ISBN 0-86622-631-1)  - a book full of Siberian Husky information, featuring lots of colour photos of famous dogs.   

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            4.  "SIBERIAN HUSKIES - A New Owner's Guide to Siberian Huskies"  by Kathleen Kanzler  (ISBN:  0-7938-2776-0) -  the author is the "Diva" of Siberian Huskies and has been in purebred dogs for over 50 years.  On page 26 you will find a photograph of two Siberian Huskies, KeeKaWa's Kristy and Ch. KeeKaWa's Keela pulling Kristen and Brendan in a stagecoach.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           5.  "'FATHER OF THE IDITAROD - The Joe Redington Story"  by Lew Freedman  (ISBN:  9-945397-75-5)  This is a biography of Mr. 
Redington, who created a legacy in a 1,000 miles plus race across Alaska - the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.  The words "it can't be done" were not in his vocabulary.  This is an easy read and a great factual story.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           6.  "MY LEAD DOG WAS A LESBIAN" by Brian Patrick O'Donoghue (ISBN:  0-679-76411-9) - a book telling the story of this author  running  the 1991 Iditarod Race, first he had to find the dogs, equipment, etc.  He writes factually about his own experiences and those of many fellow racers.  This is an easy and interesting  read.                                                                                    

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          7.  'MUSH - A Beginner's Manual of Sled Dog Training"  by Bella Levorsen, Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers Inc. (ISBN:  0914124064)  This is the definitive beginners manual for sled dog training and racing.  The book includes history of sled dogs, diagrams, photos and even how to build your own dog houses/boxes, make your own gear and  pattern for booties. It tells you ways to train your dog how to pull.

"DOG DRIVER - A Guide for the Serious Musher"  by Miki Collins, Julie Collins (Contributor)  (ISBN:  0963085409)  This is an excellent book for beginners as well as professionals. It covers finding the right dog, proper gear and how to use it (detailed photos) quality of food, daily care, medical needs, breeding, training, recreational, distance and sprint racing. 


9. 
'SKIJOR WITH YOUR DOG" by Mari Hoe-Raitto, Carol Kaynor (Paperback)  (ISBN:  0-9630854-0-9)  This is an excellent book for information about the little known sport of skijoring. From making the equipment to training your dog and yourself, this book covers the entire sport.


10. "THE ESSENTIAL SIBERIAN HUSKY'   by Dr. Ian Dunbar  (ISBN:  1582450714 )  This book has all the information that a new or experienced pet owner needs for a successful relationship with their pet.  It covers bringing home your new pet; feeding; proper grooming; health care; how to train your pet.  Dr. Dunbar is known around the world and is in great demand for his seminars, lectures, writings, on dog behaviour.
